in our san mateo home we had a wonderful rose tree growing in the back yard that my wife trimmed one winter because it was getting too large and lopsided. i put in some poles to hold it up. late on a rainy afternoon i began painting it because it was so beautiful in the soft storm light, and finished the painting that evening around midnight. next day, i adjusted some edges and balanced or tied together different colors with paint glazes, and that was it. this was also my first painting with a broken color brushstrokes ... the rose of unique colors, red, yellow, green and blue, with violet thrown in to seal the organic compact of color in my backyard. |
